El martillo de Thor ha vuelto a desaparecer. El Dios del trueno tiene la mala costumbre de extraviar su arma (solo es la fuerza más poderosa de los nueve mundos), pero esta vez no se ha perdido exactamente, sino que ha caído en manos enemigas. Si Magnus Chase y sus compañeros no son capaces de recuperar el martillo, los mundos mortales quedarán totalmente expuestos al temible ataque de los gigantes. El Ragnarok empezará.
